Celebrities with a Sex Addiction
Editor’s note: Although it’s referenced in this post, porn addiction has never been scientifically proven to exist. In fact, researchers have stated there is no such thing as porn addiction. However sex addiction is something that many people suffer from.
Sex addiction affects approximately 6% to 8% of U.S. adults; however, it is not spoken about regularly and, for some, has sparked debate about if it even counts as an addiction or an excuse for bad behavior.
Over the years, many celebrities have struggled with sex and addiction, despite their glamorous lifestyles and fame. Many have gone on to share their stories, helping raise awareness around the illness and inspiring others to seek help and support. We must recognize that sex addiction is a disease and we should support those who are struggling with it.
In this article, Adult Site Broker explores the stories of celebrities with sex addiction and who have publicly discussed their condition.
Kanye West
Our first celebrity is Kanye West or Ye. In 2019 he opened up about how he has had a severe porn addiction since he was five and saw his father’s playboy lying around after getting candid in an interview with Zane Lowe to promote the release of his then-upcoming album Jesus is King. After losing his mother the year before, Kanye claims that his addiction was a way to cope with the grief and has affected every aspect of his life until that point forming his perspective of the world, how he presented himself, and his attitudes towards others. However, he has since kicked his addiction, although he still has a lifetime membership to Pornhub, which he was given in 2018 after he spoke about his loyalty to the site and even curated their 2018 awards show.
Andra Day
Best known for her song Rise, released on her 2015 album Cheers to the Fall, Andra Day spoke about her sex and porn addiction in 2021 while promoting her film The United States vs Billie Holiday. The Oscar-nominated actress and singer discussed how she had had to face her sex addiction head-on before starting shooting, which significantly influenced her decision to focus on the music of Billie Holiday and divert the focus away from the hyper-sexualization of the later singer (who has been known as a sex machine.) In the interview with Instyle, she stated, “I didn’t want any element of sexualization. I had come out of something in my own life — dealing with porn addiction, sex addiction,”
Terry Crews
Brooklyn 99 and White Girls star Terry Crews is number three among celebrities with a supposed porn addiction. In an interview in 2022, he stated that his porn addiction almost destroyed his marriage, forcing him to lie about how much porn he watched and keep secrets from his wife. His addiction started early in life as he turned to porn to cope with the trauma of his early life, explaining in an interview with Steven Bartlett on his podcast Diary of a CEO that it is a way to numb his pain. Things came ahead in 2010 when his marriage nearly ended, and he has since repaired his marriage and received help for his addiction.
James Franco
Controversial actor James Franco turned from the limelight when the then 44 star had a series of sexual misconduct allegations against him, including sleeping with students of his acting school. In 2021 he spoke about the claims admitting to doing so and that “it was wrong.” In the interview, he claimed that since his earlier recovery from alcohol addiction, he developed a sex addiction stating, “It’s such a powerful drug,” he said. “I got hooked on it for 20 more years. The insidious part is that I stayed sober from alcohol all that time.” he has since received help for his addiction and is recovering.
Russell Brand
Actor and comedian Russell Brand has always been outspoken about his addiction to drugs and recovery. Alongside drugs and alcohol, in 2005, he also received help for sex addiction. He has spoken in numerous interviews about it and discussed it in his comedy sets and autobiographies. As he has overcome his addictions (he recently celebrated 20 years clean and sober from drugs, alcohol, and sex), he has changed his attitude towards porn, advocating against it. On his youtube channel, he has spoken about healing and offering advice to recovering addicts.
Orlando Bloom
Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom takes the spot of number six of celebrities; since rising to fame, he found that he had developed a debilitating sex addiction that had impacted his friendships with women and mental health. After revealing to a friend that he wasn’t happy, he was encouraged to try abstaining from sex and sexual activity, which helped him connect with his inner femininity and recover his mental health. He has spoken candidly about his abstinence-based recovery from masturbation and sex in interviews explaining how he abstained for six months before meeting his then-future-fiance Katy Perry.
Anthony Weiner
Time for a controversial contender; former US Congressman Anthony Weiner made news for his sex addiction which caused him to lose his wife and to resign from his role in 2011 due to sexting and sending images to women via Twitter. Upon his return to politics in 2013 and later in 2016, he was caught multiple times sending explicit photographs to women and sexting behind his former wives back. He would later go to jail in 2017 and serve a 21-month sentence after being caught sexting with a 15-year-old girl.
Jada Pinkett Smith
On her Facebook show Red Table Talks, Jada Pinkett Smith has spoken candidly about her life, from going cold turkey with alcohol addiction and her public affair with Will Smith to polyamory with her daughter Willow. She had also opened up about the self-diagnosed sex addiction that she had suffered with from a young age, saying: “When I was younger, I think I had a sex addiction of some kind, yes, that everything could be fixed by sex,” alongside describing a time she was using a sex toy at 21 to give herself over five orgasms a day.
Nicole Narain
Former Playboy bunny Nicole Narain, also known for being in THAT video with then-boyfriend Colin Farrell, battled sex addiction, causing her to become addicted to masturbation. Surrounded by sex, it was easy to fall into the urge without anyone noticing. In an interview, she told CNN how out of control her addiction had gotten, “I had a moment where I did … I could not get out of bed one day because I was just … it was a constant thing. That was an exhausting day.” She has since learned to control her urges and recovered from her addiction.
David Duchovny
X-Files and Californication star (and for all the softcore porn lovers out there, the Narrator from Red Shoe Diaries) David Duchovny has battled many addictions over his career, with his addiction to sex being one of the most challenging. Initially denying he had an addiction to sex after being connected to a string of women in the 1990’s, stating it was associated with his alcoholism which he had received help from; he later admitted to having a problem and checked into rehab in 2008 after separating from his then-wife Téa Leoni.
