Founded, owned, and operated by adult industry entrepreneur superstar Maxine Fensom, the Australian Adult Industry Awards, or AAIA, has been celebrating and awarding porn stars and the adult film industry since 2001. The awards aim to offer regular people the chance to rub shoulders with the best of the adult industry over a black-tie event, celebrating the best of the best within the Australian adult industry annually.Â
Their awards ceremony focuses on celebrating the achievements of those within the adult industry, including porn stars, strippers, porn production and film industries, adult retail shops, men’s bars, brothels, designers and developers, and escort agencies.Â
Born out of the industry’s desire to host an awards event that celebrated all the facets of the adult film industry with professionalism and class, the Xbiz Awards was born in 2003. Created by the adult industry trade magazine XBIZ, the awards ceremony has grown over the past 20 years to encompass the entirety of the adult industry, becoming one of the most famous award ceremonies for porn stars and the adult industry as a whole.Â
Since the first ceremony, they have expanded the categories not just to include porn stars and adult film awards categories, such as Best Sex Scene or Gonzo Movie of the Year, but now have over150 categories, honoring the porn stars that make the adult film industry what it is, but also celebrating those in the production, web, and technology, and even pleasure products and retailer industries.Â
Based in Japan, AV Open was an adult industry award ceremony that started in 2006. It originally started as a limited sales contest. Still, it grew to become one of the most popular award ceremonies with its successor, the AV GrandPrix, and featured over 100 competing companies.Â
The awards were created to improve relations between the adult industry and the general public, offering the Japanese adult film industry the same quality as the US-based AVN Awards. As the awards grew in popularity and became known as the AV GrandPrix in 2008, the categories grew from just the prominent awards, AV Open Winners and AV Open Stage, to also include categories such as Best Fetish Movie, Best Mature Movie, and even Best Package Design. However, the awards were short-lived and ended after the AV GrandPrix 2014.Â
Barcelona International Erotic Film Festival is the oldest European adult industry awards and one of the most prestigious and famous awards for porn stars to receive. The awards ran from the early 1990s till 2015, offering porn stars and adult film companies the chance to win awards for different categories, including Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Film, splitting them into different categories (Nymph – which featured heterosexual porn films, HeatGay – for gay porn stars and TacĂłn de Aguja – which focused on BDSM and fetish films).Â
The awards were seen as more select than others, and over the five days of the awards, attendees could attend multiple shows in between awards ceremonies, such as strip tease, live-sex lingerie, and even sex toy shows offering an awards ceremony like no other. Â
Brussels International Festival of Eroticism is both an awards ceremony and a trade show for the leaders of the adult film industry. The first festival was held in 1993, and since 2015, during the ceremony, the prestigious and famous European X Awards are handed out to leading porn stars, directors, and porn production companies within their respective categories. Each year nominees are put forward from multiple countries, including Spain, Germany, the USA, Australia, and China, for their work in the feminist porn industry, including writers, directors, educators, sex workers and performers.Â
At the end of the three-day event, the PorYes Academy invites attendees for a one-day event that features academics and professionals to talk about porn, sex-positivity, and related topics.Â
